To Go or Not To Go – Raft-Up Weekend 9/13-9/14 – 08
Helga Fontanes
The weather forecast for this weekend did not sound good at all. Our Commodore Suggested canceling our Raft-Up. After a few phone calls with Finally, Xanadu and Stargazer we decided to fight the elements.
“Jugendtraum” left our marina at 10:45 a.m. The little wind we had came out of the East. The mainsail went up but the Iron Lung had to help. Shortly after we left the sky cleared and the sun came out.
Cocktail hour was graciously hosted by Ann and Mel aboard Xanadu. We were all enjoying our drinks and munchies when we sighted Sonrise pulling up on a mooring close to us. Debbie and Alan jumped in their dinghy and start the outboard only to have it conk out shortly after. To be honest, I watched that with “schadenfreude”. (I don’t know the English word for this) I still prefer a hard dinghy, good oars and strong arms. Fortunately, Alan got the beast started. Dinner was potluck: pasta with sausage, tomato and mozzarella, and assorted salads. It had gotten dark by time dessert was served and Britannia arrived. Thanks Ann, excellent job!
I woke up Sunday morning at 6 a.m. to mist and fog. Jugendtraum had to leave by 8 so the kids could have the boat in the afternoon. ( Being the well trained Mom that I am, we were back in time.) Anna had told us that everyone had a wonderful breakfast at the Shipwreck Diner and a good sail home.
Perfect weekend, the weather Gods were with us !
