WHAT IS THE MUSCETA COVE YACHT CLUB?
Long Island Sound, the 110 mile long, 20 mile wide, body of water that separates the south shores of Connecticut and Rhode Island from the north shore of Long Island NY is one of the most desirable sailing regions in the United States. With New York City on the west, Orient Point LI on the east , its large and diverse selection of ports are within easy reach of virtually any day sail. Beyond, to the east, is famous Block Island Sound and Narragansett Bay RI, home to Block Island and Newport, two magnificent sailing destinations.
The Musceta Cove Yacht Club (MCYC), founded in 1973, is a social, sailing club, located in the middle of this sailing paradise, with most members hailing from Hempstead Harbor and Manhasset Bay in Nassau County. With no formal clubhouse, dues are a modest $100/boat with a $100 initiation fee. The Club has more than 30 yachts from 30' to 50' and promotes the enjoyment and camaraderie of sailing, from day sails, overnights at our private Club moorings in Pt Jefferson, Northport and Hempstead harbors, to week-long summer cruises.
The Club hosts other activities, such as this year's "Cruise, Dinner and Movie" where member boats will have dinner at sea-side restaurant followed by the movie, "Perfect Storm". All sponsored by the Port Washington Civic Association, under the stars at Sunset Park.
This year's cruise will go to Greenport with stops along the way.
If you like being with friendly people, a well-run sailing calendar and affordable dues, the MCYC may be for you. We always welcome new members. Come sail with us! Please contact Barry Fahrer, Membership Chairman at 516 770-4910 or email us for more information. Also, check out some of our recent internal newsletters for more of a flavor of our family and it's activities.
